Working from home in isolation is new for all of us. It is new even for those who are used to working from home, because of the unknown, because of the pressure, because of the fear of loosing business, income, jobs. We all are very uncomfortable with working from home this way. I have been working remotely for quite some time now, but isolation after a business trip and the slowing trends in my business push me to redefine myself and the way I should operate in the future. How to face it and keep at it every day? My survival strategy is about finding sweet spots.
Ambitious routine but not regime. I have jampacked my agenda for every single day with totally new goals and tightened my self discipline to ensure that everyday I accomplish something. It doesn’t have to be a major game-changer every night, but I must feel that I am one step ahead of where I was yesterday. So my sweet spot is between working hard and allowing myself a little bit of “me time”, which on a “normal workday” would be unheard of. I have a very healthy breakfast and I eat it slowly, enjoying every sip of my coffee. I watch news and catch up with family and friends on social media to make sure everybody is ok. I exercise (Yes, NOW I do!) and play with my dogs. I work more and harder than before, but I give a little bit more of love to myself and give myself some soft space.
Finding motivation. I am motivated by success, accomplishments , progress or enthusiastic feedback. Hard to find these days, when most of the small businesses I worked with are winding down, going bankrupt or simply putting their operations on hold. The future will be different after Corona virus, so I decided that now is the time to prepare for it through research, self education and training. My agenda for development is busy, and if in the evening I can honestly say that tonight I am a lot more educated and a lot better prepared for the unknown future, I feel great. Getting up the next morning is also a lot easier. I push my boundaries everyday and I’m curious about how far I’ll manage to get by end of the day. Sweet spot ? Between what I already know and am good at, and the vast amount of knowledge that I still need, in order to succeed in the new reality after COVID-19 mess is over. This isolation time is a serious self discovery journey, and I take it with evening dinner celebrations and a glass of something ….rich and fragrant. Sometimes bubbly 🙂
Catching up. How many of you are guilty of buying books and never reading them? I am ! At some point in my career I gave up and decided that I would read them all only when I retire… Hey! im not quite there yet, but I suddenly have more time at home. The sweet spot is between being selfishly curled up on a sofa with a book, and the generous family time, games, meaningful conversations, new plans, new ideas ….dreams.
So , even this is an uncomfortable zone for most of us there are a few things we can do to enjoy it, to remain satisfied and to still find reasons for small celebrations. Chin up! Have you got any sweet spots to share?
